Blood glucose levels are extremely important to monitor for people suffering from type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Blood glucose levels must be kept in a range that is called normoglycemia. Otherwise, several problems may occur. Long-term hyperglycemia may lead to kidney disease, nerve damage, retinal damage, heart disease, stroke, or low extremity amputations. Hypoglycemia may lead to hypoglycemic coma.
