Antibiotics and antibacterials are divided into two categories. “Bacteriostatic” agents prevent the growth of bacteria by interfering with and blocking the mechanisms that permit the bacteria to grow, and “Bactericidal” agents kill the bacteria by interfering with their vital structures of the bacteria.
