Metoclopramide, known and marketed under the brand name Reglan among others, is an antiemetic and gastroprokinetic medication used to treat GERD, nausea, vomiting, and to promote GI emptying (sometimes in patients suffering from diabetic gastroparesis). Metoclopramide exerts its activity by inhibiting dopamine D2 receptors and 5HT3 receptors in the area postrema of the brain known as the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ). Metoclopramide is also a 5HT4 agonist and a muscarinic antagonist.
