ACE inhibitors Quizzes

ACE inhibitors do not inhibit renin or AT1 receptor blockers. They inhibit the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. Arrhythmia is not an indication of ACE inhibitors, and diabetic nephropathy is an off-label use. There are three classes of ACE inhibitors based on their structure: sulphydryl, dicarboxylate, and phosphorous. Enalapril is today the only ACE inhibitor available as an injection. Skin rash and taste disturbance are side effects related to captopril based on the fact that it has a sulfhydryl moiety. Lisinopril is not a pro-drug like most ACE inhibitors. Persistent dry cough is a common side effect of ACE inhibitors based on the inhibition of the degradation of bradykinin. ACE inhibitors and ARBs are contraindicated in pregnancy. NSAIDs can decrease the effects of ACE inhibitors. ACE inhibitors may cause hyperkalemia, not hypokalemia.
